American Public Health Association’s Injury & Violence Prevention Data Science Collaborative, held in Washington DC on Aug 7, 2024
Developing ethical and equitable data-informed practices
Humanizing our data operations is possible when the community is collectively pushing for data transparency, making data/AI systems and knowledge workers accountable while exercising our data citizenship and agency. In this session, participants are set up to clarify the ethical and equity gaps in their data pipelines so that they can develop practical interventions and action steps to make data/AI projects more equitable without disrupting your existing data operations and processes.
Coordinate with APHA on learning planning and structure to highlight at least one of their active data science projects.
Deliver data/AI ethics and equity content for APHA’s Data Science Collaborative event in DC.
Provide data ethics/equity resources including digital versions of workshop slides, session worksheets, and responsible AI reading list.
Delivery
Deliver the equity and ethics in data workshop that helped their data science project teams identify and discuss ethical/responsible AI practices.
Provide a blueprint for documenting and forming collective consensus on ways the teams could more effectively execute responsible data/AI processes.
Outcomes
The feedback was all positive including being told “The workshop was amazing! Thanks for such invaluable information.”, the reading list giving participants accessible choices in how to learn more on their own and participants appreciative of the worksheet as it’ll serve as their guide to having better and more productive conversations with their colleagues.
